Day 6

Today Mark and I took a walk through the old town of Nice and went up to the Colline du Chateau with its glorious views. We had a coffee and pain au chocalat then took a bus to Villefranche Sur Mer.

Villefranche is one town over from Nice.

Villefranche has a lovely deep water port where all the cruise liners drop anchor. There were two of them in port today.

We ate lunch outside a lovely restaurant in the medieval town.

It was a gloriously sunny day, though that wasn’t necessarily good for my sunburnt red lobster look that I acquired yesterday in Cannes.

This evening we had dinner in a beautiful restaurant just off Rue Massena here in Nice.

Hopefully I won’t be so red when I wake up tomorrow.

  1. Oh my, traffic will stop when they see a red light head. ;-)

The main thing is that you enjoy yourselves and get the much needed rest after months of looking after those two delinquents [O & R], just as they are having a rest at their Cat Spa.

  2. Glorious photos, what beautiful weather and surrounds :)

  3. Just curious. Do either of you speak French? You can manage ok with English?

    • Hi Andrew, I know a few words but not much. I can acceptably order food in a restaurant and buy a train or bus ticket but that’s about all. Luckily most people speak some English and they are more than happy to do so if necessary. I find that if you begin in French at least it shows you’re making an effort and you usually end up with better service. The phrase I have used most in response to a barrage of French is “pardon, je ne comprends pas, parlez vous Anglais?”: “I’m sorry, I don’t understand, do you speak English?”

  4. Hello, we came over from Ruby and Oliver to see your holiday snaps :-) I was on a cruise in ’08 that stopped in Villefranche and as we were on the launch coming into the port I picked out the chateau I would like, it was on the left with an elevator going down to the sea, I’m sure you saw it – LOL! I love how so many buildings in coastal towns are painted yellow, it’s so happy!
