On Monday I called the insurance company and put in a claim for the carpet. Later that day the assessor came by and said that it needed to be replaced. Mark and I tore up the carpet and underlay on Monday night. Today we received the voucher from the insurance company for new carpet. I am impressed by the speed of their response.
The bare concrete floor is taking its time to dry out. We may need to get dehumidifiers in. At least three doors will need to be replaced as they have swollen with water damage, plus a lot of the skirting boards will need to come up too. We have a builder coming in tomorrow to make an assessment for the insurance company. I’m not sure how far the water has infiltrated the plasterwork and brickwork at this stage.
Anyway, we have five weeks to get it all fixed before Mum arrives, plus we’re away for eight days during that time…

Definitely get a dehumidifier. I’d lend you mine, but there’s that distance thing. You don’t want to give mould a chance to grow…
See how much a good one is and then see how much it would be to rent one from a building company or something. (They’re used in newly built houses to help dry them out more quickly)

I agree about the dehumidifer. We had our water heater go on us with somewhat similar results in our basement, and they really helped dry things out!

Nightmare stuff for you. You seemed to have been a bit unlucky. Hope that is the last of the problems. And, best birthday wishes to Orlando.
