So, just having breakfast and watching Hit 40 UK. Orlando has joined me and is feigning disinterest in my cereal bowl.
Today I want to go and have a look at the Farmers’ Market which is held monthly on Lark Lane. I haven’t been before so I want to see what’s on offer. I am hoping for jams and preserves.
Tonight I’m dragging Mark to the Philharmonic to hear Haydn’s ‘Creation’ performed by the Liverpool Welsh Choir.
Orlando wants to get down now and was about to jump from the table top to the floor – not a good idea for a ninety year old with arthritis – so I pulled a chair out for him to use as a step.
The number one song on Hit 40 UK is a cover of REM’s “Everybody Hurts” to help Haiti earthquake victims. It’s actually quite insulting when you listen to the lyrics in this context. The message basically becomes “Yes, you’ve lost everything in an earthquake, but everyone else has problems too, so get over it”. Is Rod Stewart still alive??
Anyway, now it’s time for the Top 20 R&B and Hip Hop songs. I foresee lots of gyrating Beyonce, and poor Lady Gaga looking like a starving wastrel next to her in “Speaker Phone”.

Did I observe that Lady Gaga is coming to Melbourne? She will be hard pressed to do better than Pink. Are they on the same plane for young people?

Lady Gaga was performing in Liverpool two or three days ago, as she was here for the Brit Awards. I don’t think I count as a young person anymore (I have to tick that 35-45 age bracket on surveys these days), and now that I don’t have the students to keep me up to date I am going to fall sadly behind the times!

lady gaga……it’s very funny watching 11-12 year olds singing away to her lyrics and not quite getting the meaning….sure they have a fair idea of the intent but they don’t get it all……
