As you can see from my last post, we awoke to snow this morning. It turns out we are in Britain’s worst cold snap in the last thirty years. We like to make an entrance! Planes at regional airports such as the local John Lennon Airport (I’m not making that name up) were diverted as the snow just kept coming. Schools were closed and, in the second half of the day, local buses were cancelled.
We, of course, just having arrived, assumed this was what winter was like. We set off this morning in the car to the centre of town to go to open a bank account. I mastered the art of driving in blizzard conditions (still without a map) and later today we drove out to Speke where they have a retail park and a huge Pets At Home store, where we bought supplies for Orlando. We are hoping that the UK’s worst blizzard in decades will not preclude Orlando’s safe arrival. Jetpets has assured us that, short of a hurricane, Orlando will be with us tomorrow. Right now Orlando is flying over Iran. We have fingers and everything else crossed here.
This afternoon I went out for a quick walk to take a few photos before the last of the sun was gone.
I liked the crunch of powdery snow underfoot.
And this is what’s at the end of the street. Sefton Park.
A frozen wonderland. Strangely enough, it wasn’t as cold as I thought it would be, as there was no wind.
Families were playing, and children were making snowdogs.
Luckily our central heating is warm, plus we have a gas-log fire in the sitting room. Mark has also worked out how to use the television!

That’s a beautiful gate! And I’m sure glad you made it safely and I’m sure Orlando will be really happy to see you and _really_ confused by the white stuff covering everything outside ;-)

Just.Totally.Gorgeous!
Was reading in the Scottish newspaper (as you do) that the Scottish roads are getting hammered with this cold snap and they’re having to buy road salt from Africa – hope things aren’t so dire in Liverpool!
Orlando must be with you now?
